Terms of working together
In effect 3 August 2026 · Stuart Nelsen, sole proprietor · Tuscaloosa, Alabama
Most terms pages exist to protect the person who wrote them. This one is mostly a description of how I actually work, written so you can check it against what I told you on the phone.
The short version
- Your domain, your content, your accounts, and your finished site are yours.
- Published prices: $1,250 site, $250 logo, $50/month upkeep, $50/hour coaching.
- Two rounds of revisions, then honest conversation before anything becomes billable.
- No ranking promises. Nobody can make those, and anyone who does is lying.

Who you are dealing with
Stuart Nelsen, a sole proprietor working from Tuscaloosa, Alabama. One person, no account managers, no ticket queue. When you call the number on this site, I answer it.
What I do
Website design and build, logo and brand mark design, ongoing hosting and security upkeep, and one-on-one coaching in building and maintaining your own site. Published prices as of the date at the top of this page:
- Website design and build — $1,250. A complete site, written and built, typically two to three weeks, paid on delivery.
- Logo and brand marks — $250. Vector files in the formats you will actually need. Add-on or standalone.
- Hosting, backups, and security — $50 a month. Optional, cancel any time.
- One-on-one coaching — $50 an hour, one hour minimum.
- Packages combining the above, quoted before we start.
Prices here are current but not frozen forever. The price that applies to you is the one I quote you in writing, and it does not change once we have started.
How an agreement gets made
Nothing on this page is a contract by itself. We have an agreement when I have written down the scope and the price, you have said yes in writing — email or text is fine — and I have started.
If anything I write to you personally conflicts with this page, what I wrote to you wins.
What you provide
Projects stall on materials, not on design. You are responsible for supplying the logo files, photographs, written information, prices, hours, and anything else the site is meant to contain, and for making sure you have the right to use all of it.
If you send me a photograph you found online, or copy lifted from another company’s site, I will not use it. If something you supply turns out to belong to someone else and that becomes a problem, that part is on you.
If materials go quiet for more than sixty days, I may pause the project and invoice for the work completed. Picking it back up is always fine; I just cannot hold a slot open indefinitely.
Revisions and scope
A build includes two rounds of revisions on the design, and a reasonable amount of ordinary correction after that — typos, a wrong phone number, a photo swap. That is not a stopwatch; it is a description of normal.
Adding pages, adding features, or starting the design over from a different direction is new work. I will tell you before it becomes billable, not afterwards. You will never receive a surprise invoice from me.
Payment
Site builds are paid on delivery unless we agree otherwise in writing. Logo work is paid on delivery of the final files. Monthly upkeep is billed monthly in advance and can be stopped at any time, taking effect at the end of the month you have paid for. Coaching is billed after the session, one hour minimum, then by the hour.
I do not charge interest on late payments, and I do not take a site down over an unpaid invoice. I will simply stop doing new work until it is settled, and I will say so directly rather than going silent.
Who owns what
This is the part people get burnt on elsewhere, so it is written plainly.
- Your domain is yours, registered in your name, from the first day. Always.
- Your content is yours — your words, your photographs, your logo.
- The finished site is yours once it is paid for: the files, the code, and the right to change it, move it, or hire someone else to work on it.
- Logo work is yours once paid for, in full, for any use, forever, with no per-use licence.
- Your accounts are yours. Hosting, registrar, Google Business Profile — all in your name, with you as the owner.
I keep the right to show the work in my portfolio and to reuse general techniques and code patterns I have developed, which is not the same as reusing your site. If you would rather I did not show your project publicly, tell me and I will not.
Third-party pieces — typefaces, stock imagery, plugins — come with their own licences, which I will name at the time. Those I cannot transfer.
Coaching
Coaching is teaching, not doing. In a session we work on your site together and you drive. What you get is the ability to keep it running yourself, which is the point of the whole exercise.
Sessions are booked by agreement. If you need to move one, as much notice as you can manage is appreciated; life happens and I am not going to charge you for a cancelled hour. If I have to move one, likewise.
The tools we use — ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Perplexity — belong to other companies, come with their own terms and their own subscription costs, and change frequently. They are also confidently wrong sometimes. Nothing I teach removes your responsibility to read what they produce before it goes on your website.
Hosting, backups, and security
The monthly upkeep plan covers watching renewals, keeping backups, applying security and platform updates, and checking the site is up. It is deliberately not the same as content changes — those are yours to make, and coaching exists so that you can.
I will do my best to keep a site online and current, but I do not control the internet, your hosting provider, your registrar, or Google. I cannot promise perfect uptime, and no honest person can.
What I do not promise
I build sites that are technically set up to be found: proper titles, descriptions, structured data, alt text, and pages that load fast. That is real work and it matters.
It is not a promise of a ranking. Nobody can promise you position one on Google, and anyone who does is either misinformed or lying to you. Search results depend on your competitors, your reviews, your location, and rules that change without notice.
I also do not promise a particular number of enquiries, customers, or dollars. What I promise is a site that is fast, correct, honestly labelled, and yours.
Limits
I do the work carefully and I stand behind it. If I break something, I will fix it, and I will not argue with you about whose fault it was first.
That said: my responsibility for any project is limited to what you paid me for that project. I am not liable for lost profits, lost business, or knock-on consequences, and I am not liable for outages, data loss, or actions caused by third parties — hosting companies, registrars, platform providers, or AI tools.
Keep your own backups of anything irreplaceable. That is good advice regardless of who built your site.
Ending things
You can stop a project at any time. You pay for the work done to that point, and you take with you whatever has been completed and paid for. No termination fee, no clawback, no hostage-taking.
I may decline or step away from work that turns out to be something I cannot do well, or something I would rather not put my name to. If that happens, I will say so early, refund anything unearned, and help you hand it to someone else.
Where this is governed
Alabama law applies, and any dispute belongs in the courts of Tuscaloosa County, Alabama.
Before that: call me. In a business this size, almost everything that looks like a dispute is a misunderstanding that survives about ten minutes of conversation.
